Photo of our lot as seen by our neighbor above, Nancy Our new beach house is located in an area known for wild winter storms and high wind. And we got it over the weekend! 75 mph gusts, thunder and lightning, torrential rains, even hail. Our neighbor captured the sunny aftermath of water flowing across our property.
While the builders make their final touches on the house, I am designing berms and paths and planting schemes. Our mission: only Island County native plants, self sustaining, no maintenance, let the grasses grow wild, protect from deer, and make it look natural. Bonus boulders are unearthed and plopped on top of the berms. Perfect perching spots for kids and dreamers.
In contrast to
Kenda's elegant purple pumps... here is what my feet are up to!
Those wellies and your feet look like they've been very productive! Already the shape of your new garden is starting to emerge and it's looking GOOD! I love the 'indigenous only' approach and how those berms and boulders make the cottage look and feel even more comfortably nestled into its spot on the property... It's going to be a place of delight for kids and dreamers alike!

Beverly, what an amazing location for your new beach house! You have chosen well and are obviously giving all aspects of the design, home & yard, careful thought. We are working to transform our yard plantings gradually to only North Florida natives. In fact, I have been blogging about some of that just lately. I look forward to seeing your landscaping as it develops.
ReplyDeleteThe green space gradually decreasing so make green space in your surrounding through landscaping.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a breathtaking view, Beverly! This is one of the best things about having a beach house. You have a beautiful view of the sunset and it wouldn't take you long to feel the sand and the ocean waves. For me, the place was clean, friendly, and very wonderful!
