Feels Like Autumn

A coating of frost touched the leaves on my Japanese maple giving them a bejeweled glow in the late autumn light.

Color with Kids

Fusion of photography and poetry - a day at a local nursery with 53 Fifth and Sixth graders armed with cameras!

We started with 3 photo assignments designed around compositional elements I use when taking photos - each student accumulated around 200 photos full of color.

The kids also wrote poetry inspired by their photographs.

At the end of the day, we pulled both together using PowerPoint (they all had it on their Netbooks) to create gorgeous mosaics.

If I could only show you the artwork they created - beautiful and insightful... I wish we had a week together with our cameras instead of just a day!

Photography Lesson - Angle of Light

Since it was sunny, I asked 5th and 6th graders to bring in their cameras and we studied how the angle of light source affects photos.

Though all they had at their disposal was the school grounds, they did some amazing work - and learned to look at objects in a different light (pardon the pun!).

The white kale was taken between classes at a local nursery while I talked with the Event Coordinator hoping to get a photo/field trip to the nursery later this year!!!

Back home

After a wonderful week at Adorn Me!, gorgeous sunrises welcomed me home.

In that precious light of morning, my 12 year old son and I raced down to the beach and passed the camera back and forth. So fun to share a passion!

Photography with kids

Armed with a new camera, tons of inspiration from all of the wonderful photographers in blogland and more interest than talent - I created this mosaic last spring and have been playing and learning and pushing my creative boundaries ever since.

And... I thought it would be fun for kids to learn along with me! On Friday, 5th and 6th grade students brought cameras (of all different kinds and qualities) to school and we set off into the playground searching for shape. Our 'Inspirational Artist' was the talented Kenda - we studied her 'Walk through the Churchyard' mosaic and the kids ate up her repetitive use of diamonds, and the way she cropped to create completely different pictures.

Then we headed into the computer lab to upload and manipulate photos and create mosaics - their teacher is a tech wiz!
