Color Inspiration - Magenta Hydrangea

The deep intense color of this hydrangea is made even more luscious by the background medley of shiny leaves reflecting the blue of the sky and the blurred bit of peach from a nearby flower.

Ahhh - It's raining again!

A humming bird hovered a foot from my head while I stood under the dripping trumpet vine. I wish I could have shared him with you, but as soon as he realized I wasn't part of the background he shot away in a blur.

We have web feet here in the Pacific Northwest and aren't used to hot, dry weather month after month with days soaring into the 90s and even tipping over 100. We don't have pools, or air conditioning - we like 70 degrees (plus or minus) and interspersed with rain... thank you very much!

When it started sprinkling yesterday evening my kids went out in bare feet to play Frisbee, my husband, mother-in-law and I sat under the porch watching the ground soak up every drop and breathing in the ozone and damp earth. So lush and fresh and green - and alive.

My dear friend, Sherri knows how I love hydrangeas - and gave me this gorgeous conical white to go with my purples, blues and burgundies

...plus a non-dairy chocolate cupcake.
Life is good!

Feeling a little down

as I waved my family goodbye. They headed down to Oregon for a mini-vacation... I'm staying home to finish pulling together all of the diagrams, photos, illustrations for my book. It's due to ship out tomorrow evening - and I still have lots to do and am feeling overwhelmed. Then on the heals of shipping it out, I will dive into making samples for all of next year's show proposals. Yes it is good I stayed home - I will get lots done.

But so hard to watch them go.

In the midst of feeling sorry for myself, I received a beautiful note and powerful shot of vasbyt from a dear friend who sensed I needed it.

So I made a cup of Earl Grey (decaf), clipped a bouquet of butterfly bush and hydrangeas, turned on Debussy and am writing away...
