Water and Sky

Dancing, swirling
Reflect light and dark
Peaceful, stormy
Change in an instant

Holds me entranced
A natural movie screen

Out of hundreds (perhaps thousands) of pictures I have taken of sky and water, none convey the experience of leaning over the edge of a ferry and watching the dance of light on the water, streaks of gold and pink at sunrise, seagulls drafting off the side of the boat, or a bank across the water peeking in and out of the fog. So many textures and colors always changing and moving. I never get tired of watching, and yes, taking more pictures.

  1. Beautiful colors and images Bev. How do you fit in all that you do in a day?

  4. i agree with you. i have so many photos i've taken of the water spraying off the back of our boat...about 20 years' worth. thank goodness for digital cameras, because the rubbermaid tote is full of prints... none quite as beautiful as yours, you have such an incredible eye!

  5. Beverly, you transported me back to my time in Ketchikan. I can feel my arms on the rail of the ferry, see myself looking down at the rhythmic wake, under the bow and along the back and side of the big boat, a fine sea spray wafting up. Mesmerizing then and even now as I think about it. Thanks!

  6. Oh Beverly I love the cold crips colors of whites and greys. I still do remember the time we were on the ferry to Whidbey Island and I got splashed by the water, do you? Wonderful memories.

  8. I, like you, am looking forward to lots more of those rides and views and smells and tastes and feelings... that register each time we step on the ferry...that somehow transports us to another world, really.

  9. What a beautiful collection of images Beverly! And I agree wholeheartedly - there can never be too many pictures taken of the ever-captivating and changing water and sky... they offer something to echo and reflect every nuance of mood. And yet, the picture only goes so far because the direct experience is even more profound and is impossible to capture in an image alone. I love having the pictures though, for their own sake and as triggers for memories of the experience... I hope you've been soaking in lots and lots of both over this Thanksgiving time and are feeling full to the brim with skyand seasoulfood!

  10. Your mosaic is beautiful. I can't say I share the ferry experience, but I love looking over the edge o the boat on the tours around he Farne Isles. With seals bobbing, and puffins flying, its a real treat x
