London

A whirlwind tour of London after the night train from Edinburgh, we were exhausted, but excited to be in the heart of Great Britain.

Kilts and Rain and the Fringe Festival

On to Edinburgh for only a day. Lovely, sandstone buildings stained dark from centuries of burning coal. Finally some kilts, but typical weather alternating from warm sunshine to pouring rain.

We happened to come in during the Fringe Festival, and streets lines with performers

From Wordsworth to Gretna Green

Dipping back a century or two, our travels took us through the Lakes District. Peaks became higher and watery gems lay at the base of the valleys in between.

Nestled in a hillside is the home William Wordsworth. Wisteria lush over the doorway, a perfect transition between expansive, yet unassuming, gardens and a comfortable home with natural light pouring in. How could one resist the creative energy weaving through the rooms, especially up in his attic studio?

Then just across the Scottish border to Gretna Green - the scandalous 18th century destination for eloping couples (I think I was the only one of our group to have ever heard of it! Thanks to Jane Austin and Georgette Heyer...)

Whirlwind View of Wales

Is it possible to fall in love in 3 hours? We caught a ferry from Dublin to Wales, landing on the beautiful island of Anglesey.

A lovely stop at Beaumaris Castle

Wishing we could stop and linger on the sandy beaches, tiny towns nestled at the foot of the Snowdonias, castle ruins...

Wales: we will be back!

Color in Dublin

So much color, so little time!
